Research relevant laws and regulations

When a question turns on a law, a rule, or an authorizer’s requirement, Alta can search official sources for your state and quote what it reads.

Steps

  1. Make sure your school’s state is on your profile, and your authorizer if you know it.
  2. Ask Alta the question from the box on your home, such as what your state requires for charter board member training.
  3. For North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Arizona, Alta searches a short list of official sites for your state and the federal government, reads up to four documents, and quotes them.
  4. The answer says what Alta searched, what it read, and what it could not read.
  5. In a Council review, an advisor may name a rule to look up; press Research this to have Alta look it up the same way.

Worth knowing

  • Some official sites cannot be read by a program. Where Alta could not read the text, the answer says so; upload the document if you have it.
  • Alta is not a lawyer. Confirm a requirement with your authorizer or your counsel before acting on it.
