What is collected, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.

Who this is

Alta Council is operated by Alta Business Solutions. Privacy questions go to martez@altacouncil.com, and a person answers them.

What is collected

Only what the product needs to work:

  • Account details. Your name, email address, and a hashed password.
  • Your school profile. School name, state, model, grade span, enrollment, and any optional context you add so advisors can ground their answers.
  • Your sessions. The questions you ask, the notes you type during a session, the advisor responses, and the record you close with.
  • What your council has learned about your school. When a session closes, Alta Council reads the notes you typed in it and files up to three durable facts about your school, so your next session starts already knowing them. It files only things you actually said, never conclusions the advisors drew. Every one shows you where it came from and how old it is, and you can remove any of them in one click. See the security and data page for exactly how this works.
  • Ordinary server logs. IP address, browser type, and timestamps, kept by the hosting provider.

Nothing is collected from you by tracking. There are no analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, and no third-party trackers on this site.

Please keep student data out

Alta Council is for leadership decisions and does not need information about individual students. Do not enter personally identifiable student information or records covered by FERPA. Alta Council is not acting as a school official under FERPA.

This matters more for the notes you type mid-session than anywhere else, because those are the notes a durable fact can be filed from.

How it is used

To run the council, to keep your written records available to you, to send you transactional email such as password resets, and to answer you when you write in.

Your own past sessions are used to answer your later ones. Decisions you have closed, and the facts your council has filed about your school, are put in front of the advisors when you bring a related question. That is the product working as intended, and it is the reason a fourth session is better than a first.

Your data is not sold, not rented, and not used for advertising. There is no marketing list. One school’s sessions are never used to answer another school’s questions, and no model is trained on your sessions.

Who else sees it

Four service providers, each doing one job: Anthropic generates the advisor responses, Supabase hosts the database, Vercel serves the site, and Resend delivers transactional email. What each one receives is set out on the security and data page.

Beyond those, your information is disclosed only if the law requires it.

How long it is kept

For as long as your account is open. The value of a decision record is that it is still there months later when somebody asks why.

Your choices

Anything your council has filed about your school can be removed by you, from the council page, without writing to anybody. A removed fact stops being shown to you and stops being sent to the advisors.

Write to martez@altacouncil.com to get a copy of your data, correct it, or have your account and everything in it deleted. Deletion is completed within thirty days. You do not have to give a reason.

Children

Alta Council is for school administrators. It is not directed to children and accounts are not knowingly created for anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top changes and account holders are told by email. Changes are not made retroactively to data already collected.
